Certificate Program Description

The Video Production & Digital Media course sequence introduces students to digital art and language of film and provides students with hands-on training in video production and digital editing. 


Students work independently and in teams to produce video shorts.  Students learn rudimentary shot techniques using the RED and other video cameras, edit raw digital medium; insert music, dialogue and sound effects, arrange footage into sequences and correct errors using digital editing software including iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Live Type, Soundtrack, Garageband and more. 


Instruction focuses on learning skills performed by camera operators, digital editors, producers, directors, set designers and on-air talent. Students learn specialized vocabulary and use it to express themselves in their analyses and critiques. 


Students receive a foundation of up-to-date classroom instruction using today’s latest software and state-of-the-art MAC computers.  Using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, and Final Cut Pro digital editing.  Students will demonstrate the use of the programs for photographic image rendering and manipulation, drawing and coloring, ad design, graphic and text placement, page layout, and Public Service Announcements.


Required Supplies: 3 ring binder, tab dividers, highlighters, pens, pencils, and note book.


Career Outcomes

Students who successfully complete 450 hours of classroom instruction and 150 hours of Lab hours with the grade of 70% or better are eligible for immediate employment. Upon successful completion of the course students can be eligible to work in the Television and film industry.


Admission Requirement

1.  Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
