This past Thursday the Baldwin Park Racing Team SkillsUSA chapter took part in the first ever elective fair at Baldwin Park High School. SkillsUSA students organized, set up a booth and spoke with younger classmen about the Automotive Technology program and SkillsUSA. The goal was to inform the incoming students of the benefits of our career based education programs. The team did an amazing job of promoting and building interest in our program. The crowd of students was large and there was a major buzz around the booth all day. We had a variety of props and a video that one of our students made played on a loop. There was even welding helmets for the underclassmen to try on.  The event developed students abilities on SkillsUSA goals of Professional Development, Public Relations and Social Activities. We look forward to doing it again next year.

The Automotive Technology students at Baldwin Park High School recently completed the class project 1970 Chevrolet Nova. The project was a collaboration between all classes and students performed all the work on the vehicle except applying the paint. Students built the engine, trans, rear end, completed the interior and installed the glass! The paint was applied by Maaco in Orange. The general manager of Maaco was so impressed with the level of work by the students that we are currently working on an internship with 30 locations across Southern California. The instructor is Clayton West.

Athletic Training Students enrolled in the Covina High School Sports Physical Therapy course had an opportunity to go on a Field Trip on February 1st. They went to Mt SAC on a campus visit. There were many activities held for the students to not only learn, but demonstrate their practical skills to students from other high schools--all in preparation for their articulation exam. Some of the basic skills they worked on include but are not limited to the following: splinting, taping/wrapping, wound care, emergency response, and teamwork. They also learned about the Mt SAC athletic training program.

Advanced students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education class at Walnut High School are currently working on creating math activities to share with their Vejar Tk buddies. Once apprehensive students, they are now gaining confidence on how to work with 5 year olds in a school setting. Several students have decided to pursue careers with children because of the Vejar experience. Mrs. Sandoval is proud to be their teacher. Each and every one of her has contributed to fostering a positive experience for all the children they have encountered. They are planning a circle time especially for the Vejar Transition Kinders. They will be making an instrument with them that will be included in their Music and Movement activity. Mrs. Sandoval is excited to extend the welcome mat at Walnut High School to Vejar.
