SUCCESS STORIES
Betty Durham
Betty Durham began attending the Computer Applications class at East San Gabriel Valley ROP/TC in September. She came to the class with an accounting and finance background and was proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Betty began the course working with Access. She was quick and enthusiastic about being in the post-secondary program since the class is composed of non-traditional students who also returned to school to increase their marketability. Betty assisted her classmates whenever her help was requested and she participated in discussions as well as sharing current events. Betty interviewed with the Pasadena Unified Credit Union and after interviewing for one position, she received an offer for another position becoming available. She accepted and has re-entered the work force looking forward to her new career.
We congratulate Betty and wish her the best!

Jennifer M. Saldana
My name is Jennifer M. Saldana and I am Filipino. I have 4 brothers and 5 sisters and I'm the youngest in the family. I came to the United States when I was 21 years old. My oldest sister petitioned me; that's why I am here in the United States of America. My 4 brothers and 2 sisters are all living in Chicago, Illinois. I moved to California in February 1985. I met my husband, got married and have 2 boys age 14 and 9. I worked in the Health Care industry for 15 years as a payroll coordinator. I got laid off from my previous job because the company was downsizing. I decided to take the Computer Applications class so I can be marketable. I have been in Ms. Lopez' class for 2 months now and I have learned a lot about Microsoft Word. Ms. Lopez is a wonderful teacher, understanding and knowledgeable. I am also taking a night class in Medical Insurance Billing and Claims at the Tri-Community Adult School. One day my friend called me and offered me a temporary job processing medical claims. She works for the Glendale Adventist Medical Center in Glendale in the Claims Department. She talked to her manager to see if I could get real experience processing claims. I accepted the offer because I don't want to miss the opportunity that I will learn from this job. I hate to leave Ms. Lopez class, but I will be coming back as soon as this job ends.
