Certificate Program Description

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is an entry-level patient care provider in the field of emergency medical services.  Many paramedics, doctors, nurses, and firefighters have used their EMT education and experience as a stepping-stone to their new career. EMTs have the knowledge and skills to provide emergency care and transportation of patients. They can work in a variety of roles and are often the first on the scene of accidents, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.

 

Prerequisites: Meet admissions requirements (page 9). 

 

Proof of the following immunizations must also be provided:  Hepatitis B Vaccine/immunity: A Hepatitis-B vaccine (start of 3 shot series or signed refusal form), Proof of Hepatitis-B vaccine shot series completed, positive Hepatitis-B Titer, or signed refusal form.   Tuberculosis: A negative TB skin test (within three months of the beginning of the course), or a negative chest x-ray for positive skin tests.

 

Technology Requirements:  Flash Drive, Wrist Watch with second hand, Pen-Lite, tablet, Blood Pressure Cuff/Stethoscope.

 

Required Supplies:  Uniform, Boots, 3-ring binder, tab dividers, highlighters, pens, and pencils.

 

Student Outcomes

Upon program completion, the following student outcomes are expected:

  • Earn a certificate
  • Demonstrate the ability to seek, apply and interview for program related employment.
  • Apply for the following industry certifications: National Registry of EMT
